Why Proper Site Prep Matters

We recommend building the pad about 12″ wider on all sides than the structure. This helps rainwater drain away from the building and keeps mud from splashing up the sides.

A level base ensures doors and windows open and close properly—no sagging or sticking.
✅ Long-Term Durability
A strong, even foundation reduces the risk of floors sagging, settling, or warping over time.
✅ Rodent Protection
Stone foundations help keep critters from burrowing under the building or damaging the floor.
What Kind of Base Do You Need?
We usually recommend a stone pad foundation with pressure-treated framing and clean crushed stone. In some cases, you may want or need a concrete pad - especially for modular or build-on-site structures. We can provide layout plans for anchoring and drainage as needed.
We do not recommend cinder blocks. They make delivery more difficult and can lead to uneven settling later on.
How Much Does Site Prep Cost?
As a rough estimate, site prep usually costs between $10 and $15 per square foot, depending on the size, condition of the site, and materials used. Factors that may affect pricing:
- If your site is more than 8″ off level, there may be additional charges.
- Pads over 26″ off level may require a custom quote.
- If we can’t access the area with a dump truck, additional fees may apply
